An Orange In December
Like a lot of Newfoundlanders, I grew-up finding an orange in my stocking every Christmas morning. While oranges weren’t a rarity in my youth, the tradition comes from a time when they were much less common on the island — for a long time an orange was a rare and special, seasonal gift.
Inspired by this tradition, An Orange in December is a brand new piece by Untellable Movement Theatre. The film is a short movement piece shot in Winterholme in St. John’s. The score is a Dave Panting mandolin arrangement of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Overture. Untellable Movement Theatre calls it a virtual Christmas card and that feels about right — it’s a beautiful, heartwarming piece that reminds of simple pleasures and childhood Christmases. It’s worth checking out.
