Celtic Connection: A Children’s Winter

Written by Dermot O'Reilly of Ryan's Fancy, Children's Winter has become a Christmas classic in Newfoundland.

And for good reason.

It's a simple, nostalgic song that paints the picture of the happiness winter brings to children, tempered by the idea that as they 'climb up life's long hill’ it won’t all be fun and games. It’s relatable.

‘You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone’ didn’t become a cliche for no reason.

This version is by Celtic Connection and can be found on The Christmas Wish compilation by Avondale Music.

Check it out above or hear it, and a bunch of other cool Christmas songs from Newfoundland artists on the 2020 Newfoundland Christmas Playlist.
