Les Aurores Du Labrador by Port-Aux-Poutines

If you’re a fan of Newfoundland folk music, especially the ‘modern classics,’ you’ll want to check out “Les Aurores Du Labrador” by Port-Aux-Poutines. It’s a French version of “The Northern Lights of Labrador,” the song made famous by Corey and Trina.

This version is clean, thoughtful, and beautifully done. It stays true to the spirit of the original while offering something new for French-speaking listeners — and for anyone who appreciates a fresh take on a familiar tune.

Port-Aux-Poutines is a French-Canadian duo based in St. John’s, made up of Jenna Maloney and Axel Belgarde. Since forming in 2022, they’ve been blending French-Canadian and Newfoundland musical traditions. Their work includes original songs, translations, and old folk tunes that highlight the province’s Francophone roots and stories.

“Les Aurores Du Labrador” is a great example of what they do best — connecting cultures through music and bringing a fresh take to Newfoundland and Labrador classics.

Definitely worth a listen.

Check out their brand new collection Oui B’y. It’s available now.

I’m obsessed with music from Newfoundland and Labrador…

It’s fresh, wild, and full of surprises. The artists here are pumping out so much new stuff, it’s hard to keep up. So, I started a playlist of my faves—tons of genres, but the only rule is they’re local and totally repeat-worthy. I update it regularly, so follow along (on Spotify, Apple Music or Youtube).

Trust me, there’s a ton of good stuff coming your way.
