Barry Canning: First Christmas

If the ornaments are to be believed, first Christmases are noteworthy events. From new couples to new babies to new homes, there’s a decoration to commemorate them all. It makes sense, Christmas — maybe more than any other time of year — encourages reflection on family and relationships, changes and new additions are bound to noticed.

Barry Canning’s 2020 streaming-release First Christmas explores the theme. The track takes me back, not only to my own first Christmases, but to late night fm radio. Which makes sense, I guess, as Canning tweeted it was “A Christmas song I wrote a long time ago.  Was released to radio, but never streamed.  Now available on all platforms.

It has a great mellow rock vibe. Totally worth checking out.

Newfoundland Christmas Music

Stay tuned for more great Newfoundland Christmas music.

I'm a big fan of traditional Christmas music, I love to hear a modern rendition of a 300 year old carol but, occasionally, a brand new song comes to my attention and dominates my Christmas listening.

Newfoundland's musicians have been holding their own in both regards. I’ll be sharing a song a day from now until Christmas in a NFLD Music Advent Calendar.
