Carolina East: Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

I’m a big fan of Carolina East. Her voice is rich and soulful, while her delivery is moving and nuanced. I’ve been listening to her Christmas collection, Home for the Holidays a lot. It’s really very good.

It’s from East’s album that I’ve taken the last entry in the 2021 Newfoundland Christmas Music Advent Calendar — Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Not only is it a great track, it’s got a sentiment I can get behind.

For some of us, myself very much included, this is (once again) not the holiday season we hoped for. At its core, and especially in its original version, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, is about marking the holiday when the world doesn’t seem to be handing out a lot of reasons to celebrate. It’s very 2021.

I can’t tell you how to find happiness in all of this Omicron mess, but I hope you do discover it. For me, I’m sure it’s still there in little things — good songs, tasty cookies, and long walks with Murphy.

On a positive note, it has been fun building this Newfoundland Music Advent Calendar, in no small part due to the people who reached out and told me they found new artists and songs to enjoy. I’m happy and very grateful for the feedback.

I invite you to stay tuned to Best Kind posts for Newfoundland music and pop culture throughout the year.

Until then, season’s greetings!

Newfoundland Christmas Music

Stay tuned for more great Newfoundland Christmas music.

I'm a big fan of traditional Christmas music, I love to hear a modern rendition of a 300 year old carol but, occasionally, a brand new song comes to my attention and dominates my Christmas listening.

Newfoundland's musicians have been holding their own in both regards. I’ll be sharing a song a day from now until Christmas in a NFLD Music Advent Calendar.
