Fortunate Ones’ Hold on to Christmas Day

This year was a bastard…

When Fortunate Ones opened their 2020 holiday track Hold on to Christmas Day with that line I felt like they were singing about the pandemic. Now that I’m one year older and wiser, I realize you can say that about pretty much any year — for all the beauty in life, there’s lots of hurt, worry and sadness too.

As suggested by the song, I like the idea of trying to carve a space to be happy, to be happy despite… the abundance of reasons not to be. If you can do that on Christmas, that’s awesome. If you can’t, that’s understandable too — it’s a weird/stressful/sad time of year, really.

I plan on looking for some happiness in the little things — favourite cookies (date squares, snowballs & nut clusters, for the record), a good cup of coffee and great songs (like this one by Fortunate Ones).

Newfoundland Christmas Music

Stay tuned for more great Newfoundland Christmas music.

I'm a big fan of traditional Christmas music, I love to hear a modern rendition of a 300 year old carol but, occasionally, a brand new song comes to my attention and dominates my Christmas listening.

Newfoundland's musicians have been holding their own in both regards. I’ll be sharing a song a day from now until Christmas in a NFLD Music Advent Calendar.
