Matthew Byrne: Serving Girl’s Holiday

Matthew Byrne's Serving Girl's Holiday from his 2015 EP Sing Through The Heaven and Skies has been in my Christmas rotation since its release. It’s wistful with great vocals.

I don't know too much about its origins of the song except that it is old (translated from Middle English kinda old) and that Byrne's rendition leaves out references to a holiday tryst that can be found in early versions of the text.

Check it out above or hear it, and a bunch of other cool Christmas songs from Newfoundland artists on the 2020 Newfoundland Christmas Playlist.
