No Word of a Lie by Kitchinparti

Kitchinparti’s brand new album No Word of a Lie delivers exactly what you’d expect it to — fun Irish/traditional Newfoundland music. More than that, it’s got depth and a sense of humour. It’s thoughtful, smart and relentlessly entertaining.

I’ve been listening to the title track on repeat. It makes me happy, So happy, I almost didn’t write this note. I didn’t want to think about the song; I just wanted to enjoy it.

It’s too good to keep to myself, though.

‘No Word of a Lie’ is a catchy, hand-clap punctuated track with clever lyrics. It recounts stories of mermaids, fairies, and all manner of tall tales and local culture. It even manages to name-check Dick Nolan’s/Ellis Coles’ ‘Aunt Martha’s Sheep.’

It’s up my alley… but, I’m a guy who writes a blog about the ‘strange truths and tall tales of a foggy island’ and NL pop culture so probably that goes without saying.

Check out the whole album. I’ve added the track to my Newfoundland Mixtape playlist. I’m thinking it’s going to be in high rotation for a while.
