Black Market Hard-Tack’s ‘Coming Out of the Coffin’

‘Coming Out Of The Coffin’ takes me back… all the way to… I don’t know… 2006 maybe? It was about then that St. John’s-based outfit Vampires of Love recorded the track. I loved it and became a big fan of the band.

Vampires of Love had ‘lo-fi pop-punk’ nailed, and the track, which navigated the difficulties of ‘coming-out as a vampire’ — encapsulated their energy perfectly.

Now, just like Dracula, the song has returned from the grave.

A new version of ‘Coming Out of The Coffin’ has been recorded by Black Market Hard-Tack. It was released for Halloween 2023. It has all the fun, punk energy of the original, and has been on my playlist all autumn.

This year, they’ve backed-up the song with a fun music video. It’s worth checking out, as are all BMHT releases.

Get the track on Bandcamp, or wherever you stream music. Watch (and like) the video on Youtube — it’s perfect for Halloween.

You can hear my “Songs for a Spooky Season” Halloween(ish) Newfoundland and Labrador playlist right here.

Songs for a Spooky Season Playlist

Okay, they’re not all Halloween songs, but this playlist of Newfoundland and Labrador artists cover a range of themes that definitely help to set the end of October mood.

Ghosts, demons, murderers, devils, dead bodies, hell, Shakespearean witch quotes, gothic novel references, wolves howling, slasher-flick killers… this playlist’s got them all.
