Christmas Time by Ana Luísa Ramos
Ana Luísa Ramos ‘Christmas Time’ has an effortless, easy groove that I really enjoy. It starts with her beautiful vocals over a piano and evolves into a cool jazzy Christmas tune.
I’ve been playing it a lot and I don’t foresee myself stopping anytime soon.
Ramos was Born in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil but calls St. John’s home these days. According to Ramos the song was written during her first winter in Canda and “was inspired by the winter, snow, and how the season is embraced here in a different way.”
Ramos second album Amanhecu was released by Citadel House in 2021 but I discovered her music through her duo act Ana & Eric (they played at the NL Folk Festival). Their tracks ‘Hope’ and ‘Lights My away’ from their 2020 eponymous ep were stand outs.
Check out her catalogue at Citadel House.
More Christmas and Holiday Music from Newfoundland & Labrador
Stay tuned for more great Christmas songs from Newfoundland and Labrador.
I'm a big fan of traditional Christmas music, I love to hear a modern rendition of a 300 year old carol but, occasionally, a brand new song comes to my attention and dominates my Christmas listening. Newfoundland and Labrador's musicians have been holding their own in both regards. I’ll be sharing local songs —both old and new— from now until Christmas in my 2022 NL Music Advent Calendar.
