Rum Ragged: The Green Shores of Fogo

Rum Ragged’s new album Gone Jiggin’ was released at the end of last week and I’ve been listening to it on repeat ever since. It’s a wonderful collection, in the tradition of all their other wonderful collections. Rum Ragged clearly knows how to make a contemporary traditional album.

I’m a fan of the entire collection but have been especially drawn to their version of ‘The Green Shores of Fogo’. The song, which describes a man leaving Fogo and his true love in search of his fortune, is often performed in a very melancholy way; Rum Ragged respect the emotion of the song but deliver it in a somewhat more energetic way. I like it.

It’s totally worth checking out.
