Rum Ragged: Christmas Rum

22 days til Christmas… is it too early for Christmas rum?

Hmmm… I vote no.

Rum is a big part of the holiday celebration for some people in Newfoundland. It’s a go-to beverage, a fruit cake ingredient, and a contributing factor in the occasional holiday indiscretion (and what would the holidays be without those).

Some people even wind up in jail trying to get a bottle —at least in the tale related by Rum Ragged in Christmas Rum. The song, according to GEST, was written by two teenagers in Rose Blanche who chose to remain anonymous… perhaps there was a bit of autobiography going on there?

Rum Ragged’s rendition can be found on their album Rum Ragged at Christmas. Check it out.

Newfoundland Christmas Music

Stay tuned for more great Newfoundland Christmas music.

I'm a big fan of traditional Christmas music, I love to hear a modern rendition of a 300 year old carol but, occasionally, a brand new song comes to my attention and dominates my Christmas listening.

Newfoundland's musicians have been holding their own in both regards. I’ll be sharing a song a day from now until Christmas in a NFLD Music Advent Calendar.
