The Duds’ Solstice

I feel like I use the word anthem a lot when I write about The Duds but I’m not wrong — Melanie O'Brien and Philip Goodridge know how to deliver defiant, hook-laden pop. You kinda have to sing along.

Their new holiday track Solstice (part of their 4-song Dudvent calendar) is a case in point. It’s about finding light on the darkest days… It’s a perfect message for the holiday season, I think. The ‘most wonderful time of the year’ often isn’t. And sometimes finding the joy, and the light in the darkness, feels like an act of defiance, hope and perseverance.

Check it out.

Newfoundland Christmas Music

Stay tuned for more great Newfoundland Christmas music.

I'm a big fan of traditional Christmas music, I love to hear a modern rendition of a 300 year old carol but, occasionally, a brand new song comes to my attention and dominates my Christmas listening.

Newfoundland's musicians have been holding their own in both regards. I’ll be sharing a song a day from now until Christmas in a NFLD Music Advent Calendar.
